Casual Footwear Gets Dressed Up at Micam in Milan

The unstoppable trend towards casual comfort-driven shoes seems to have peaked! There were still plenty of collections promoting comfort footwear at Micam, the international footwear trade fair presenting fall/winter 2016/17 collections in Milan. However, novel materials and treatments disguised them and gave them fashion appeal. In addition, there was a resurgence of heels inching up again in height, from low block heels to mid-high versions to, yes, high stilettos. We see this tailored career pump trend gaining momentum, and who knows…there will always be the woman who will never give up her sexy high heel pumps! And we spotted some great new ones!

The low boot silhouette will be by far be the most important boot silhoeutte going forward. Heels and bottom constructions can vary from comfort units to wedges and lug soles to block heels. Novelty croco and graphic print upper materials, with or without shine, make them desirable for a new season.

Fur evokes luxury, soft to the touch and cozy comfort. All categories of footwear benefitted, from simple suede wedge boots with a fur cuff, to an elegant pump sporting furry pompoms to an all-over casual fur sling-back sandal (jewels optional).

7. Comart 8. Pas de Rouge 9. Nila & Nila

The return of the tailored pump with sturdy heels, ranging from low block heels to mid-heel heights was definitely a category on the rise. Suede and two/tone, two/texture upper designs in fashionable blues and wine shades made them the perfect fashion accessory to tailored suits.

If there is one fashion footwear colour to focus on, it should be any shade and materiel in the wine family. Whether patent or fur, smooth or textured leather, wine footwear was represented in dress shoes, casuals and boots.

Everybody loves stretch! It molds to the foot, it is comfortable, and all-over neoprene (dressed up with sparkly stones) probably was the ultimate way of glamourizing a casual shoe. Wide stretch bands or partial neoprene uppers on tailored booties tapped into the comfort factor as well.

Have moccasins peaked? Not according to exhibitors at Micam who presented eclectic new versions in patent leather, on new lightweight comfort bottoms, with fun decorative upper details such as elongated kilties, plaid inserts or a touch of wine as a keeper with matching piping around the sole edge.

There were simple, elegant pumps in fashionable two tones, there were totally dressy suede pumps with jeweled ornaments, there were pumps pretending to be moccasins. All had one thing in common: sexy high heels!
